Australia is big. Real big. So are the adventures and experiences that await you in every single state. There’s a lot of good things about being stuck in your own backyard, especially once that is as vast and diverse as ours.
WHERE WILL YOU GO BIG?
HERE’S SIX
INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCES AND STAYS
RIGHT AROUND AUSTRALIA WHERE YOU CAN GO REAL BIG FOR YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE.
1
GREAT BARRIER REEF, QLD
Hamish’s 'Big Barrier Reef' is really big. But what this means in reality is that despite the hype, you can almost be guaranteed a bit of this precious national wonder all to yourself. From liveaboard diving safaris with reef sharks, to living out your wildest Robinson Crusoe dreams in a luxury beach ‘shack’ on Haggerstone Island.
2
THE OTWAYS, VIC
There’s the Great Ocean Road, but just behind it on the very same coastline, is very big, and very lush mountain forest in the Otway Ranges. The windswept coastline in western Victoria often overshadows the breathtaking waterfalls and a temperate rainforest behind it. A unique combination of soil, weather and natural farming practise have all made possible an unparalleled food journey in the Otway hinterlands. Best enjoyed from a luxury caravan, with a big view of the roaring southern ocean.
4
PURNULULU NATIONAL PARK, WA
The world heritage listed Bungle Bungle Range is located within Purnululu National Park in the Kimberley region of WA. These big geological “bumps” are thought to be more than 20 million years old. Meander at their wide bases, threading through the Echidna Chasm and the National Park’s famous Cathedral Gorge, before retiring for the night with a drink at the only private safari camp.
5
NAMADGI NATIONAL PARK, ACT
This national park is so big that it covers 46% of the entire territory. It’s also a cultural time capsule, with an aboriginal presence dating back 21,000 years. Jump in a 4WD and explore the ancient roots of this mysterious national park with a Traditional Owner and juxtapose this with a stay in a mid 19th century colonial homestead nestled in the snow gums of the nearby Kosciuszko alps.
6
BONDI BEACH, NSW
This beachside suburb might not be very big, but the personalities within it are huge. This is the number one place to eat, drink and be seen in Australia’s biggest city. In recent times, this seaside icon of Aussie surf-culture has also morphed into a multicultural tapestry of restaurants and bars. Check out our favourite Cuban-inpired cocktail haunt on the waterfront.
