WE ASKED:

GREECE OR ITALY?

KATE GAZZARD @kate_gazzard

Having just returned from my own European summer adventure, both countries (and the experiences I had in each) are vividly fresh in my mind.

The food in Greece is obsessively good. The tzatziki is creamier. The saganaki is cheesier. And the chicken gyros beats any late-night kebab you can get back home.

But just when you think Greece might win it, you remember Italy has the cities (Venice?!), the impressive monuments (Trevi Fountain?!) and that picture-perfect coastline (Amalfi?!).

So I'm copping out on this one – I simply can't decide.

Wow, you want me to choose between Italy and Greece?! That’s pretty impossible! Both have ancient historical significance for history buffs, great art for those who appreciate the classics, amazing beach locations for those wanting to lie around and sunbathe, and delicious food for the foodies.

For me though, I think I’m leaning more towards Italy – if only for the rolling hills of Tuscany and the delicious focaccia… oh, and gelato!

Let's come clean. I'm not just Italian, but Italian from Rome (yes, there is a difference), and with that, I say this: there is no contest that Greece is better in every single way, and for good reason. Everything Italian is built on Greek concepts. The food, the culture, and even dolce far niente was originally ντόλτσε φαρ νιέντε.

The point is definitely do not go to Italy under any circumstances. Pretty much any other country has us beat. Now go get lost and make up your own opinion because really that’s the only thing that matters.

In fact, why stop there? Why not go to the source and hit up Turkey? Now there's a country that trumps both Italy and Greece any day of the week. I mean, I feel remiss not to mention Syria here if we’re going down the line, but I digress.

get in the know The Tahitian alphabet only has 13 letters in it. They still have all the vowels, but they've cut out a bunch of consonants, including everyone's least favourites w, x, y and z.
