“We keep pace with the Ladkhi couple only because they pause at regular intervals on this track through the narrow, gnarled canyon. Man and woman take turns bearing a precious bundle that gazes sleepily out at us from a colourful sling. We learn they’re from the village we had slept in the night before. Before long, we come upon an old van waiting to carry the family of three down out of the valley to Leh. We part ways with well wishes and smiles, then turn to venture deeper into the Himalayas.”

“I left Switzerland, and all I can think about is getting back there. It’s a postcard, you just can’t beat the Swiss landscape. A sunrise at the Matterhorn is spectacular — there’s a reason it’s the most photographed mountain in the world. And then a sunset on the Schilthorn is incredible, just surrounded by those huge mountains.”

"'Don't look at my coconuts, look at these coconuts', our guide (apparently) said in Bislama as he climbed a coconut tree in his revealing grass penis sheath. We laughed, because everyone else was laughing. The downside of being the only international guests on a 10-day local bush trek is that we don't understand the language, or get all the jokes. This trip was beautiful but wet. So wet the dry bags keeping my camera gear safe could of got their Cert 2 in deep water diving."

"Two wheeled tetris on the streets of Old Hanoi. The Vietnamese are masters of loading up a 125cc bike, from families to sacks of rice. You see the full spectrum of the city whizzing past, from business men in their sharp suits, families heading off to school, puppies, chickens, and the occasional iced coffee vendor."

"In Hawaiian language, manta rays are called 'hahalua', which means 'two breaths'. Locals consider these creatures the angels of the sea — and this was definitely proved true on a recent night dive on Hawai'i Island."

"After a three-hour (and very uncomfortable) 4WD drive from the remote town of Nhulunboy in the Northern Territory, you'll find the Dhalinybuy homeland. People in Dhalinybuy are part of a well-established community and are immensely proud of their Wangurri heritage. Their home is right on the banks of the Cato River, a mighty, croc-filled estuary that flows into Arnhem Bay. "This image depicts a young Dhalinybuy man performing an equally heartwarming and spine-tingling welcoming buŋgul (bunggul) within minutes of our arrival on country. We were visiting this remote community in East Arnhem Land as part of a trial program designed to attract more tourists to remote indigenous homelands like Dhalinybuy."
