A DOMED DREAM

Aurora Domes

Iceland

This luxe camp takes you that far off grid, you’ll begin to wonder if the grid was ever the best spot to be in the first place.

Weird & Wonderful

Set on a frozen Icelandic lake in winter (or drifting on a highland lake in summer), these private glass domes plant you in scenery so vast and silent it feels like someone muted the entire planet.

Nighttime means a front-row seat to the northern lights, no elbow-throwing crowds surrounding you and daytime is all wild horizons, snowfields, and the occasional “is this really happening?” moment.

Inside, the domes are unexpectedly plush: real beds, real heat, and real bathrooms. You won’t find any of that ‘character-building’ camping nonsense here.

Outside, there’s a wood-fired hot tub, a sauna, and enough space to feel like Iceland personally invited you to spread out. Adventures range from fat-biking across ice to kayaking among bergy bits, but honestly, simply existing out here counts as an activity.

MEXICAN HIDEOUT

MIRA Earth Studios

Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico

It takes exactly three seconds at MIRA to realise you’ve been living your life at the wrong altitude.

Weird & Wonderful

These standalone studios are tucked right into the rocky hillside, built with rammed earth walls and native green roofs that make them feel less like a hotel and more like the coolest bloody hideout you’ve ever stayed in.

Inside, luxury peeks from around every corner: king-size beds, a living area that whispers “relax,” and a kitchenette stocked with local goodies that could tempt even the most disciplined snacker.

Want bubble-bath vibes with a side of starlight? Your private terrace comes with a jacuzzi and firepit, perfect for slow-burning conversations or marshmallow diplomacy under the night sky.

Mornings here are a ceremony in their own right: a breakfast basket delivered to your door followed by a locally roasted coffee ritual. And if you can tear yourself away, adventures await: sunset horseback rides, vintage car winery tours, or bird’s-eye views in a helicopter.

GROUP STAY

Ishq Talpe

Sri Lanka

Ishq Talpe is luxury without the annoying ‘please don’t touch anything’ vibe. It also sleeps 14, so bring your best mates with ya.

Weird & Wonderful

The moment you arrive, the villa’s sleek white walls and open-plan spaces frame the Indian Ocean like it’s part of the interior design. Each of the villa’s five rooms feels thoughtfully planned out, with pops of colour, polished wood, and clever touches that’ll make you feel right at home. No seriously, can we move in?

And the pool practically begs for a mid-afternoon cannonball while the rooftop terrace offers a front-row seat to sunsets that are unsurprisingly difficult to scroll past. Inside, there’s a sense of ease: king-sized beds, quiet nooks, and air conditioning that actually works.

The staff slip seamlessly into the rhythm of your stay, serving meals, mixing cocktails, or placing an extra pillow exactly when it’s needed. And between chasing waves, snorkelling along the coast, or wandering the streets of nearby Galle Fort, the villa becomes a backdrop for effortless relaxation.

CANYON GLAMPING

Tinajani

Andes Mountains, Peru

Tinajani feels like someone built a luxury camp in the middle of a canyon just to show off.

Weird & Wonderful

Staying at Tinajani feels like crashing (in a very polite, high-altitude way) into a secret Andean hideout. Nestled in a canyon of red sandstone spires, a.k.a “Valley of the Giants,” this place is built for just twelve guests. So immediately you know it’s not gonna be packed with selfie-sticks.

The camp itself is charmingly low-key: six authentic safari-style homes perched on stilts, each with two tents (one to sleep, one to lounge), a wood-burning stove, and a private deck with an open-air hot tub. There might not be anywhere to get your sweat on but we reckon soaking in a tub under the vast Andean sky beats any hotel gym.

But the communal spaces are cosy starting with the old adobe farmhouse featuring a firepit for swapping stories or just watching the canyon happen. And meals here feel like a warm hug - think traditional Andean stews, quinoa crepes, local cheeses melting into fondue, and a comforting cup of purple-corn “api” for dessert.

By day, local guides lead hikes to pre-Incan petroglyphs, wander through rare Puya de Raimondi forests, or cycle along ancient trails. And at night, the sky explodes with more stars than you’ve ever seen in your entire life.

SLEEP UNDER THE STARS

Starbed at Ishara

Masai Mara, Kenya

At this remote place, you get the Masai Mara all to yourself. Well, that’s if the hippos don’t sneak in.

Weird & Wonderful

Perched on a private treetop deck, the Starbed at Ishara’s Kenyan escape is a floating bedroom with a killer view - think luxury tent meets treehouse with a tub that’s begging for a champagne bubble bath.

The canopy-level deck gives you a front-row seat to the savanna’s live-action wildlife show. Elephants strolling by. Lions practicing their roar. Birds auditioning for the world’s harmonious choir. And yes, Masai guards are nearby, so the only wild surprises are Insta-worthy, not life-threatening.

Daylight is for lazy mornings with the sunrise painting everything gold, coffee in hand. Nighttime is for stargazing so good it should be illegal, while the distant rumble of The Mara reminds you that you’re very much in the middle of nature.

Get us there asap.

CITY SAVVY

Blue Fox Hotel

Tbilisi, Georgia

The Blue Fox Hotel in Tbilisi is a little slice of design-savvy calm tucked into the chaos of the city’s Old Town.

Weird & Wonderful

It’s small, intimate, and thoughtfully decorated, so every corner feels curated rather than accidental. Wooden floors creak just enough to remind you that history lives here while bold murals and pops of colour keep it feeling contemporary and playful.

Rooms are snug but clever, with quirky details like patterned wallpaper, brass accents, and plush bedding that makes wandering the cobbled streets all day worth coming back for. Bathrooms are modern and functional, with showers that might briefly make you feel as though you’re in a spa, even if it’s just 7 pm on a random Tuesday.

Downstairs, the café-bar hums with locals and travellers swapping stories over Georgian wine or coffee, and the sunny courtyard is perfect for plotting your next adventure around town.

TAP INTO TBILISI

get in the know Georgia is the birthplace of wine. Archaeologists found clay vessels with wine residue dating back to 6000 BCE. That’s not a fun fact, it’s a global flex.
